Hello there! We all probably know someone who we claim is "DOING TOO MUCH." Y'all know what I'm talkin' 'bout! Example...let's call him Bro. Fantastic: a dude that works 50 hours a week as a nurse in the children's ward, volunteers each week tutoring a child, is a Big Brother in Big Brothers Big Sisters, active in his church planning youth events and teaching the youth class in Sunday School, actually has a relationship with the Lord, disciplin' a dude from the youth ministry, spends a few hours every Saturday either takin' his grandma grocery shopping or visiting the sick and shut-in and sharing the Gospel wit da young brothas he runs into in da neighborhood.
UM....HELLO??!?! He's doing A LOT! You may be thinking, "Ok so he must have EXTRA brownie points wit Jesus. Peter is ALREADY waitin' for him at da Pearly Gates to give him a personal tour around New Jerusalem that includes a chariot-ride with St. Paul 'n nem. Mmm-hmm..."
But the truth of the matter is...even though he's doing that much he should just be thankful that the Lord ALLOWS and ENABLES him to do so much. Shucks, this brotha is an example to the rest of us in using EVERY HOUR the Lord gives. BUTTTTT (!!!!), let's look at what Jesus REALLY has to say about this...turn with me in your Bible (or yo' ipad, Bible-on-phone, online Bible) please to Luke chapter 10. The Savior sent all those men out with "authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy" and told them that nothing would hurt them. Dem jokas came back all excited about the things they had done (see verses 1-9 for their assignment) saying "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!" and Jesus won't even stuntin' all that stuff that they had done. He already KNEW they were gonna do it and He'd TOLD them to. So check out His response in verse 20: "Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."
WOWWWWWWW. So even though Bro. Fantastic was doin' all that stuff, he BEST be glad that his name is written in heaven! That he's been redeemed! SAVED! RESCUED! Thank You, Jesus!
So fear not, dearest reader, do what the Lord has called you to do. And in all your doing for the Lord, don't get so caught up in DOING that you forget HIM. ANDDD rejoice that your name is written in heaven. GLORY. TO. GOD!
Til next time,
U.M.
